How to Handle a Giant Giant Problem

Summary:

The four brothers of Goliath return to avenge Goliath’s death. The older David no longer possesses the stamina for combat; yet there are many who are able to take his place. The people of God protect David and defeat the enemy.

Application:

This passage reminds us of the need to disciple. We are able to fight now, but who are we bringing up behind us to continue the fight?

How this passage could point to Christ:

David is told not to fight as they must protect the “Light of Israel”. This seems to be a reference beyond David to the Son of David who would one day call himself “The Light of the World”. As believers, we must ensure that we do not allow our liberties to ever darken the Light.
